Reduce infant, child, and adolescent suffering and mortality in Port Salut, Haiti.
OBJECTIVE: Engage and sustain the active participation of community groups and individuals
in the design, planning, implementation, management, and evaluation of a Comprehensive
Community Based Health System in Port Salut.
- Really commit to the idea of participating with the community.
- Meet regularly with government, local, and community politicians, and social, tribal,
and religious leaders so as to develop relationships based on mutual respect where
responsibilities, benefits, and costs are shared – leading to outcomes that benefit
all partners.
- Share knowledge and skills with the community at every opportunity.
- When possible, hire Haitian professionals, paraprofessionals, and unskilled individuals
living in Port Salut.
- Establish village health committees, to gather and report data, facilitate health
related activities, and support the Community Health Workers.
- Encourage and assist in the establishment of mother’s groups to support the Community
Health Worker and stand together in joint action against social and health issues.
OBJECTIVE: Design, plan, implement, manage, and evaluate a high quality Comprehensive
Community Based Health System where no child is turned away for an inability to pay.
- Develop, build, and operate Klinik Timoun Nou Yo to integrate and manage childhood
illness, disease, and malnutrition.
- Design, plan, implement, manage, and evaluate an Intensive Comprehensive Community
Outreach Health Care Program for children ages 0 – 5 aimed at prevention, education,
and referral.
- Develop a comprehensive educational program including but not limited to the following:
•Pre-natal
care •Post-natal care •Nutrition •Breastfeeding - Ensure environmental sustainability through affordable means and technologies by
outsourcing research and development of systems for affordable and nutritional food,
potable water, and environmentally safe and cost effective waste management.
OBJECTIVE: Utilize valid and reliable quantitative and qualitative research in program
development and planning.
OBJECTIVE: Monitor and evaluate program services to find out if we are achieving
what we set out to do.
- Create and utilize recording systems and make regular and annual assessments of progress.
- Systematically review the various components of our health care project every three
to five years.
OBJECTIVE: Strengthen the ability of Port Salut’s only hospital, Hopital Communautaire
de Reference, to provide more viable services so as to more positively impact the
community.
- Work with Hospital Sisters Mission Outreach of Springfield, Illinois, to upgrade
and improve hospital equipment.
- Exchange baseline health information.
- Share effective models of health management.
- Develop system of referral and follow up between Hopital Communitaire de Reference
and Klinik Timoun Nou Yo.
OBJECTIVE: Serve as broker of cultural, social, medical, health, and environmental
information between the communities of Port Salut and visiting medical, health, and
environmental agencies, organizations, and individuals working in the Port Salut
area.
- Make known to the outside community through “advertisement” of Klinik Timoun Nou
Yo and its Outreach Program, that there exists in the region an ever present and
consistent program of comprehensive community based quality health care.
- Seek out other agencies, organizations, and individuals working in the area to share
resources and information, in an effort to avoid duplication of efforts.
- Provide consultation and training to outside organization upon request in a number
of areas, including but not limited to: health and environmental issues, cultural
and demographic considerations, local contacts, etc.
