We Need an Airplane!

January 20, 2010

My name is Michele Boston and I, with my husband, Jeff, am owner of a St. Paul, Minnesota corporation. We are also Founders and Co-Executive Directors of a nonprofit organization called No Time For Poverty. The flight of our Medical relief team of 24 physicians, surgeons, nurses and EMTs, was cancelled for flight travel into Haiti on Tuesday, January 26. Fourteen were to leave out of Minneapolis, the remainder, coming from California, directly out of Miami.

Our team was formed in response to a specific request by Loune Viaud, Director of Strategic Planning and Operations for Paul Farmer’s group, Partners in Health. As you may be aware, Partners in Health is the organization coordinating the medical relief efforts on the ground in Haiti. Partners in Health is awaiting our group. Loune Viaud has made all the arrangements necessary to receive and deploy us once on the ground.

We are in desperate need of your assistance. If you know of a private, corporate, or commercial aircraft that would transport our team, please let us know as soon as possible. If you need more information, please visit our website at www.notimeforpoverty.org. You can also view articles about us in the Minneapolis Star Tribune and The Highland Villager, and view KSTP’s recent television feature of our organization.

If you can help, please call me at 612-309-6508. If you can’t help, please forward this email to someone who may help or lead us to someone who can.

Michele Boston

Executive Director

No Time For Poverty has sponsored a number of medical trips to Haiti; three of these trips were in response to requests of the community of Port Salut.  Three other trips were in response to the earthquake of January 12, 2010 that took the lives of more than an estimated 200,000 men, women and children and  maimed thousands more.

With each trip, a team of medical volunteers brought hundreds of pounds of medications and supplies to Haiti.  What follows is the chronicles of our third medical trip, our first to Port au Prince only 12 days following the earthquake. Pursuant to a request by Loune Viaud, Operations Director, Partners in Health, we assembled a team of 25 surgeons, physicians, nurses and EMT’s to travel to the likes of a war zone to save the lives and relieve the suffering of those injured and dying from the quake. Join us in their amazing story as it was told daily and at the time, by No Time For Poverty’s Executive Director, Michele Boston:
